Homemade cnc in 8 hours
Just to test how my stepper motor drivers works.
Builded this simple cnc in 1 night ![]()
An old cd drive as z-axis, stepper motors from old inc printers, some LEGO pieces, Pieces from old furnicure ![]()
Now i am building a better one so i can mill in some soft materials.
And ofcourse better steppermotors.

Homemade Mini CNC 4 axis milling machine – Neo7cnc.com
This is a small CNC machine that I made. Unit is about 26 pounds. Cutting area is 4.5x by 5y by 3z. It uses THK actuators. I use dampers on all the steppers to help with vibration. Home switches are currently installed on the x and y.

Printer Stepper Motor For Wind-Electric Generation – See Playlist For Emergency House Power
If your interested in using a stepper motor for CNC & robotics stuff, here is a premade “driver board” you can run/program from your computers parallel port, for only $25
http://www.stepgenie.com/ There is a nice explanation of how it works there also. Please visit cerebralmeltdown.com for alot of tech type stuff about things like this.
Using a stepper motor to easilly make electricity. Though nowhere near the power of the homemade types with magnets, coils, etc, a stepper mottor will provide enough current to do some things, perhaps charge batteries, or run a LED light.
To get very high rpm, you can hook a large gear (toothed or pulley) at the turbine axis and connect this to the smaller gear of the stepper motor (ie. its axis/shaft). When the large gear spins once, the stepper motor will then spin several times.
The steppor motors shown in the video were from computer printers. A computer scanner (ie. digital photo scanner) also contains a small steppor motor similar to the small steppor motor of the printer.
Here are a few stepper motor/generator links:

I made a vid. response to this video and it shows some of the wire configuration possibilities for connecting a load.

Stepper Motor Controller on homemade pcb
My homemade stepper motor driver on a pcb. The boards works great.
Notice how the cheap $2 motor looses sync at high speeds. Pulses are generated from a quick and dirty 555 pulse generator.

CNC Wood Router using NEMA 17 steppers
Size 17 stepper motors on a table top router with an AXI Outrigger motor for the spindle drive. All running with a Xylotex 3 axis drive board. The motor is powered by a PC power supply at 6 amps and 12 volts. The Xylotex drives are powered by a toroidal transformer at 28 volts. The X axis lacked a bit of power as it was so I geared it down about 3:1 and now it works a whole lot better and I have isolated the spindle motor so it now uses a toothed belt to drive the spindle just a little bit faster, about 10K revs. Still 10K revs too low for a 1/8 milling cutter.

Homemade DIY 3-Axis CNC Router cutting Harley Davidson sign
Quick tour around the machine while it is cutting out a Harley Davidson sign. Some screens shots of the software we wrote to run the controller board we designed. Import files from SignLab and preview on-screen before sending to CNC Router. No need to write g-code. More than one machine can be connected on the network. Each machine is stand alone and does not tie up PC while cutting. Work on another job file and send to a machine that is not busy. Finished sign is shown at the end. Please enjoy this video while listening to Freddie Mercury of QUEEN. Any comment would be great appreciated. Thanks

Home Engineered 3 Axis CNC Router Machine
Home engineered CNC mahine cutting a 3D sign from polystyene foam material. The controller is only 6″ by 6″, and controls all functions standalone after file is sent. Vacuum table holds work material, and a small laminate cutter with 4 flute 1/4″ end mill cuts. Software allows you to load and view design before routing begins. Better than 0.001″ accuracy. Estimated work time. Emergency Stop button. Removeable job cartridge for commonly cut files. Power supplied by 24V 50VA power transformer. Controlled AC for Shop vac and router. Will cut wood as well.
