My homemade stepper motor driver on a pcb. The boards works great.
Notice how the cheap $2 motor looses sync at high speeds. Pulses are generated from a quick and dirty 555 pulse generator.

Direct CNC stepper motor drive/encoder animated in Solidworks
this will be made from an old chopped up cassette deck tape drive motor, gutted. the internal rotor will be made with a conductive material and the stator will be individually plated with small pieces of copper. There is 16 teeth on the stator gear made especially so that the 4 drive wires of a unipolar stepper motor can be energized. As the knob is rotated the motor will take individual steps with 16 per rotation.
The benefit to this is that you do not need to have a stepper driven cnc hooked up to a computer if you want to drive the motors individually. Eventually when i will be making/building this i will put up some instructions.
